From Poverty to Pastor to Prosperity: Ricky Floyd S.O. What! Success Story
So many blessings came from my experience at my first career job which was with the Memphis Grizzlies.
There was a group of us hired as temporary sales reps whose job was to get as many season ticket and group sales for the team as possible before the season started. It was a four-month opportunity and most of us were released or hired into other positions on the team at the end of the four months.
During that time, I met Ricky Floyd.
He was fun and funny and kept the sometimes stressful times with the team light-hearted. Also during that time, Ricky Floyd and his wife, Shelia, started a church in their home.
When he didn’t get hired into a permanent position with the team, he and Sheila went all-in on building Pursuit of God Church which I attended with my son as they grew from their living room into a shopping center. And more moves into church buildings, bigger and bigger each time.
I wasn’t wise enough to recognize his entrepreneurial journey.
Maybe because being an entrepreneur was not on my mind then. And I didn’t know his remarkable journey of overcoming tremendous odds until long after we had become friends. But no longer are we friends, but he has been a confidant and even a loving father-figure for both me and my son.
