Living to 100: My Grandmother’s Roaring 20’s Birthday Party

Living to 100 is an incredible feat especially if you make it there healthy, happy, and in your right mind.

On March 10, 2022 Agnes Idella “Dorothy” Jones Owens celebrated her 100th birthday. I was honored to be with her at midnight, and this is what she said.

With a Roaring 20’s/Great Gatsby/Harlem Nights theme, over 100 family and friends helped her honor the momentous occasion.

Soooo…taking pictures can be like herding cats, but here we are. Grandma’s twin daughters and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We’re so blessed to have five generations several times for Grandma!

Livingt0100.com shares Centenarians’ Secreats to Living Past100 which my grandmother probably would agree with, but she really just credits God for her longevity as she shares in her interview with a WNBJ news.

I’ve been watching The Today Show for over a decade and for just as long, I’ve been counting down to see Grandma on a Smuckers jar. I was able to create one on their site, but I didn’t see her on the broadcast. Their loss. :)

Anyone who knows me and has followed my story knows how special my grandmother is to me.

I can’t say for sure what has helped her in living to 100, but I do believe love and laughter have been key. She gives both freely, and I love giving both to her too.

If you are blessed to have a grandparent or aging loved one still too, I think you play a critical role in them living to 100.

Ask yourself:

Am I loving them as I should?

Am I helping in their care or leaving it to someone else?

Am I visiting them?

What else can I do to make them feel loved, comfortable, and alive?

Not everyone in our family can say they have done this for my grandmother, and that’s how it goes. However, those of us who have know that we’ve helped her feel loved and healthy. Helped her laugh and smile. And kept her living to 100…plus!
