Description
A unique, trauma-informed curriculum that gets students reading and ready for life’s challenges
The S.O. What! Literacy, Life Skills, and Character Education Curriculum is an innovative, trauma-informed program designed to empower students to overcome challenges, develop resilience, and achieve academic and personal success.
By seamlessly integrating literacy development with social-emotional learning (SEL) and character education, this curriculum addresses the critical needs of students, especially as they face adversity. It uses the relatable, non-fiction text Life After Birth to engage students in meaningful discussions and activities that build self-awareness, foster responsible decision-making, and inspire goal-setting. Aligned with higher learning standards for English Language Arts, the program enhances literacy skills such as citing evidence, analyzing informational texts, sequencing, and writing while incorporating cross-curricular lessons in Math, Science, Social Studies, College and Career Readiness, and Health and Wellness.
The curriculum includes a student workbook, textbook (“Life After Birth – A Memoir of Survival and Success as a Teenage Mother”), facilitator guide, access to the license to the program with an online resource library, and supplementary materials like t-shirts and hoodies that reinforce the program’s message of resilience.
