Teen Parents face unique challenges that only other teen and single parents truly understand. Their lives are drastically altered when they have to balance figuring out life for themselves while caring for the needs of their child. Even with support, teen parents often need help understanding and appreciating that support and using it to get ahead. How do you get teen parents to see that even as teen parents, they can still be successful, independent adults taking care of themselves and their children?
Through my programs, I demonstrate that graduating from high school and college are more than possible for teen parents. I inspire teen parents to pursue independence and their dreams. My S.O. What! Success System helps teen parents understand the importance of their roles as parents. I help teen parents learn the necessity of and methods to improve themselves to become better parents avoiding poverty and welfare and living their best lives with their children.
My programs can be tailored to suit a variety of events, organizations and occasions including:
- Half / full-day workshops
- Leadership and life skills training
- S.O. What! curriculum author visits and Q&A
TESTIMONIALS
“After hearing Summer speak, I am convinced that God has placed her in this position to be a guiding light to teens who find themselves as parents or on the verge of becoming parents. I encourage all teen parents to use Summer, her book, and her programs as a valuable source of information, encouragement, and inspiration as they navigate through the journey of teen parenthood.”
“Summer Owens has been such an inspiration to our students at The Adolescent Parenting Program. Not only has she reached in to mentor a teen parent in our program, but she has also spoken to our young ladies on several occasions about staying encouraged and continuing to move forward in life. The students always leave even more inspired and committed to being the best teen parents they can be! Summer’s transparency and candid conversations about her personal obstacles and achievements make her a jewel to students. They feel comfortable opening up, sharing and taking in the advice she gives. We are forever grateful for the support she gives our students.”
“The very first time I picked up Life After Birth: A Memoir of Survival& Success as a Teenage Mother and read the first page I was immediately intrigued. It’s not often that you hear the successful stories of teenage mothers. However, Summer Owens is a prime example that teenage mothers can be successful too. Summer encourages teen mothers to continue striving to better their lives by vividly sharing her journey and determination. The message I received from her is no matter who you are or what challenges you face you are somebody and can fulfill any goal you set when you apply faith, determination, and hard work. Summer Owens and Life After Birth: A Memoir of Survival & Success as a Teenage Mother is not only a book but is also Hope.”
I read Life After Birth, and I learned from Summer’s story that truly you can succeed at whatever you determine that you will do. After working with some teen moms in the past and reading this book, I decided to make it my goal to reach out to teen moms at a local high school. Using this book and the curriculum that accompanies it, I was able to witness them be inspired by someone whom they could relate to in so many ways and apply the positive, yet difficult choices that Summer made to their own lives. I can say that this book has made a difference in my personal life as well as for the young ladies I have worked with.”
Give your students Summer’s motivation and life lessons all year long!

My passion is helping youth and young adults realize success no matter what obstacles they face. As an international resilience and leadership keynote speaker, author, S.O. What! Success Coach, and creator of the S.O. What! Literacy, Life Skills, and Character Education curriculum, I empower people to say, “So what!” to their challenges.
I provide a framework to help people see past their challenges and focus on solutions using the S.O. What! Success System (Overcome Obstacles + Eliminate Excuses + Calculate Choices = S.O. What! Success). Through keynotes, workshops, books, online courses, and workbooks, I use life’s challenges and my own story of resilience as a rape survivor and teen mom success story to help others confidently pursue their dreams.
