Empowering Black & Women’s History: Unveiling Stories of Resilience
As we approach the upcoming Black History Month and Women’s History Month celebrations, I want to share a personal snapshot with you. A moment frozen in time when I left the football field as Ms. University of Memphis. Making history as the third black woman to claim that title in the University’s history. The young boy in the photo? That’s my son, and that night, I made history not by aiming for it but by striving to create a better future for him and myself.
Making History Unintentionally
I wasn’t seeking to make history; I was focused on being a good student and securing a future. But life had different plans for me, and that night unfolded into an incredible honor and a historic moment. Much like the icons Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, and Susan B. Anthony, I didn’t set out to make history, but our paths were destined to intersect. Now, my mission is to guide others in realizing the power within them to make their mark on history.
Beyond the Ordinary Speaker
What sets me apart? I’m not your average Black History Month or Women’s History Month speaker. My journey includes being the first marketing manager for the NBA franchise, the Memphis Grizzlies—my very first job out of college. In this video below, I share how I’ve been the first, youngest, or only one in many situations, fueling my excitement to inspire others to make their mark too.
