10-DAY 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY COUNTDOWN- DAY 3: Take Action and Persevere

Here comes the scariest part…taking action! Then sticking with it when it gets hard.

It’s Day 3 in my 10-day countdown to my 10th anniversary of my last day before becoming a full-time speaker and entrepreneur.

Yes, I’m celebrating ten years as an entrepreneur, but let me tell you…this journey is not for the weak.

First, the action part. After publishing my memoir in 2010, I began to get asked to speak at schools. Although I was (and still am) shy, I wanted people to know about my book so I went. Nearly every lunch break and many evenings I was sharing my story for free. After three years of doing this, I took the biggest action– THE LEAP. Leaving my amazing corporate job as scary, but living my life wondering “what-if” was even scarier.

The action takes commitment, effort, a relentless pursuit, and the willingness to do it scared. It’s in the realm of action that dreams come to life. Taking action is the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be. It’s about embracing a growth mindset and being willing to put in the work, even when faced with challenges and setbacks.

I remember the countless hours I spent and still spend planning, strategizing, and executing. It isn’t always easy, and there are moments when I feel overwhelmed. But through it all, I stayed committed to my dreams and kept pushing forward.

Five tips to help you take action and stick with it when it gets hard:

  1. Picture yourself achieving your goal. It will never happen if you don’t take action.
  2. Imagine how you will feel if you never tried.
  3. Get informed about the action you want to take and prepare for the challenges and even the f-word, failure.
  4. Rally your supporters. Figure out who is our team and want to see you succeed and meet new people who have already done what you’re trying to do.
  5. Be flexible (we’ll talk more about this tomorrow).

Your challenge for today is to take a leap of faith. No, I’m not suggesting you take a leap and quit your job, but do something that you’ve been scared to do. Something that you’ve always wanted to try. Then commit to a specific action that aligns with your dreams. Break it down into small, manageable steps and create a roadmap that leads you toward your goal. Remember, the key is consistency and perseverance.

When obstacles arise—and they will—don’t let them deter you. Embrace them as opportunities for growth and problem-solving. Stay focused on your vision and let your determination propel you forward.

Remember, dreams without action remain dreams. It’s time to take that first step and turn your dreams into reality. With resilience, confidence, and unwavering commitment, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post, where we’ll explore the importance of adaptability and flexibility. Get ready to thrive in change and uncertainty as you continue your journey toward making your dreams a reality!
